Equipment at your second/vacation home

Wondering what equipment to have at your second/vacation home? We have the answers!

Most of our clients train with us even when they are traveling because its so easy and convenient to do virtual sessions. No equipment is needed but we can recommend equipment to have on hand if you are at a second home a lot. Just like you have extra clothes and a second toothbrush, you should have your second set of fitness equipment to stay fit while you are away!

The easiest equipment to have are stretchy resistance bands. These take up such little space, you can hide them anywhere if you don’t have a ‘gym space’ or want to keep them hidden when not in use. There are bands with handles and you can loop them around a sturdy banister or there are even accessories you can buy to close the band in a door as an anchor point. Circular bands are also great to do tons of lower body exercises and really get that muscle burn without bulky weights. A step up from the exercise bands is the TRX band. These are straps that can be adjusted for height but they are not stretchy. Instead, you use your body weight to press against the bands, changing the angle you are at to increase the intensity. They can be used with an anchor in a closed door or from a ceiling if there is an anchor point already installed. TRX suspension bands are so versatile that a total beginner to fitness all the way to an expert weight lifter and athlete can use them and get a solid workout. If you want just one piece of equipment this is what we recommend. However, it can be tough to know what to do with it once you have it. That’s where we personal trainers come in! We can help you learn how to use the bands in general; practicing proper form, adjusting the bands to the correct length for different exercises and then the fun part, teaching you tons of different exercises to do with the TRX bands. There are hundreds of variations on floor exercises you can do with these. From planks, to burpees to chest press, the options are endless. And the final perk we want to point out with TRX suspension bands is that because the resistance is your own body weight, to hold yourself up on these bands, you are almost always challenging your core, and usually even other additional muscle groups that you aren’t targeting. We love this perk as its an easy way to get a full body workout in without even realizing it! And finally, we recommend having some dumbbell weights. You probably only need one or to sets. The best way to know what poundage is baed on what you and your trainer use most often. Your Find the Core trainer can recommend this once you’ve been working together for at least a few weeks. These can still be hidden pretty easily in a closet or under furniture.

With these recommended pieces of equipment, we hope you stay in your prime health even while you are away!
