Wellness Focused Packing List
Bulleted list coming at ya to come back to or copy and paste, print and leave in your suitcase! These are my travel tips and tricks. I don’t always do these, sometimes a trip doesn’t allow for any of these healthy tricks. But sometimes I do them all and it’s amazing! You don’t have to end a vacation needing a vacation. You can come back from a trip just as fit, healthy, strong, balanced and bright as when you left! I hope you can find at least one new tip you can start adding to your travel.
- Water bottle
- Even if you are flying you can bring an empty water bottle and fill it up before you take off.
- Hydration during any type of travel if numero uno priory!
- Traveling usually includes more consumption of alcohol, sugar and other less health boosting ingredients. Drinking more water helps keep your body working efficiently, even with the added splurges.
- Extra tip: When you wake up each morning, drink a full bottle of warm or room temp water to help flush out the day before.
- Medical face mask
- Ok, not needed for every trip. But on international flights, or if I think I’m getting sick, why not be cautious and fight off your trip being ruined by catching someone else’s bug?
- Plus if you’re an open mouth sleeper on planes like me, a face mask is way less embarrassing!
- Exercise ideas and tools
- If traveling via a big jet plane, I get that this is pretty limited. Believe me, I’m writing this in Europe where we fly RyanAir with only a backpack on the reg.
- But hey, that’s why you have your traveling personal trainer to show you exercises you can do with nothing but your beautiful body!
- I usually at least bring a resistance band or ab gliders as they take up minimal space
- Road trippers- bring small weights, a mat or extra towel, and any other bands or tools you enjoy using!
- You can then set up a small workout space right when you get to your lodging. Just seeing it there you’ll be way more likely to use them!
- For any type of travel I recommend having pre-planed quick and easy workouts to do in the mornings. Your personal trainer can give you tons of short or long workout routines full of exercises you can get the most bang for your buck while traveling
- Or take one exercise, like a squat, and see how many you can do in 5 minutes. Add in static holds and pulses for more fun! Start and end with your favorite balance moves, stretches or breathing exercises. You’ll feel so much better!
- More on stretching ~
- At the airport before you board the plane! Have your personal trainer show you some stretches that can help ease any pain or stiffness you get from tiny plane seats.
- At gas stations on a road trip. Have your personal trainer show you stretches, exercises and other fun quick energy boosts for the whole family when you stop for a bathroom break! Jumping jacks by your car in front of strangers? You bet.
- Feet up the wall
- This is one of my normal habits for increasing circulation before sleep. It’s definitely something to try while traveling. Before you go to bed get close to a wall and put your feet straight up while you lay down for at least five minutes.
- Let gravity do the work of pulling your blood from your lower extremities and circulating it throughout your body. This is great after a day of travel sitting in planes trains and automobiles. Or if you’ve been on your feet all day exploring the place you’re in.
- If traveling via a big jet plane, I get that this is pretty limited. Believe me, I’m writing this in Europe where we fly RyanAir with only a backpack on the reg.
- Tea
- Bring some of your favorite tea with you. Too many health benefits of tea to list here but luckily the space to pack some tea bags is minimal!
- Extra tip: I’m happy to pay 25 cents at Starbucks (usually it’s free anyways) for a cup and hot water so I can have my favorite hot tea from home on a cold airplane
- Turmeric and cinnamon
- I take these powders in a little baggie or Tupperware and take a shot each day while I travel
- Improving your circulation and strengthening your immune system with each shot
- Chia or other favorite seeds
- I bring these and take a spoonful each day of travel so I know I’m getting some super foods!
- Activated Charcoal
- If you or family members get sick while traveling, try drinking activated charcoal at night on trips. It’s used in hospitals to remove toxins from the body but is completely safe and doesn’t even have crazy detoxing effects leaving you on the toilet.
- Extra tip: Toxins include alcohol ;)
- Ok this can be a mess so make sure it’s packed well or buy capsules or gummies instead of just the powder
- You can of course also use it for teeth whitening for your vacation Ista worthy glamour shots!
- Prepped healthy snacks
- Enjoy your vacations, eat and drink your favorites. Live it up!
- But then reign it in so you don’t feel like junk after eating junk.
- Bring your favorite fruits and veggies regardless of flying or driving. If you can bring a cooler you’ll have not excuse not to bring enough for the whole trip. If you’re flying at least you can eat healthy the day of travel.
- Carrots, celery, cucumbers, apples and berries are my go to. And for healthy fat and protein I’ll bring peanut butter, avocado, coconut oil mixed with cinnamon and honey. All of these go in a tiny Tupperware in my liquids bag when flying. Nuts, edamame, pre cooked lentils, beans or quinoa also work well to take with you from home to the road.
- Of course a happy medium if you can’t bring fresh food is to bring your own trusted pre packaged snack like protein bars. Or powdered forms of food lik Organifi Green Juice powder mix, and Perfect Keto Collagen and MCT
- All your normal vitamins
- This is something I used to always forget to pack but you definitely don’t want to miss out on your vitamins when you’re traveling and your immune system is at a higher risk
- Essential oils
- They fit in your liquid allowance!
- Pick your favorites if your tight on space
- My top choice is lavender since it helps with sleep and so many other ailments like tight muscles
- I also bring a bug repellent mix from DoTerra
- Lemon or citrus mixes are great to boost your mood and energy from late nights or jet lag.
- Extra tip: take some sniffs throughout your travel hotel workout.
- Pillow case
- Even if you’re staying at 5 star hotels. I still like to know what my head is on for 7 plus hours of sleep
- Plus a lot of times hotels use super fragranced aka chemical pumped detergents
- Tennis shoes
- Hopefully you packed appropriate, comfortable and supportive shoes for the type of travel ahead of you. But if you have the space bring your workout pair in the off chance you get the time to go on a hike or do a full workout!
- Headphones
- Self-explanatory for most travelers but maybe if you don’t usually bring them think about if you are going to carve out time to stretch or exercise on your own you may want them to listen to music or a podcast
This list is long, I get it, where do you pack your ten pairs of shoes with all this health stuff?! Well you can probably fit most of these inside those shoes in your suitcase! But I totally think it’s fair to start by packing 1 of these tools next time you leave home. Then if you like it, and notice the health benefits, try another the next trip. Of course if you are working with one of our in home personal trainers, you will have all of these tools and be reminded of them. Plus they may become part of your daily routines so you won’t even have to think about bringing them on a trip, they will already be integrated in your life!
