Tips for a quality night's rest

Night-night Time for some quality zzz’s  Bedtime is an anxiety trigger for me I have struggled with sleep for a long time I am happy to say that I look forward to bedtime so much more than I used to And I think that’s due to one, whoI get to share my bed with, my wonderful husband Kyle and two, the evening rituals and habits I have put in place to make my home and my bedroom a place of comfort and calm to help me not only increase the quantity of sleep I get but also the quality. Here are some evening tips to help calm you down and get ready for a solid night of rest

  1. Stop eating 3 hours before bedtime. At least. And try to cut out sugar even earlier.
  2. Don’t drink too much liquid within this three hour stretch
    1. However, a cup of chamomile or sleepy time tea can help a lot with de-stressing so feel free to enjoy this
    2. Or Calm magnesium supplement. This helps with digestion and muscle soreness and can also have a calming effect
  3. Evening movement
    1. You don’t want to wake yourself up with a challenging workout but some light stretches or a walk around the neighborhood is a great way to let go of the day
  4. Lights and screens off at least an hour before bed.
    1. Sounds unrealistic? You can also block out the blue light that tells our body it’s daytime with some fashionable glasses
    2. Watching a screen before bed is a habit for many people and they would say it helps them fall asleep and distract them. The problem with this is even if you fall asleep, your sleep quality the entire night is damaged by the late screen time.
  5. Mediation, gratitude, prayers in bed can all help calm you down, leaving the stress of the day behind
    1. There are tons of meditation apps or downloads. Click play and let the soothing voice take it from here.
    2. Journaling gratitude or making a list while you lay in bed is a great way to let go of stress and be appreciative of the day.
    3. Praying or saying repetitive mantras in bed can distract you similarly to counting sheep when you were little
  6. Wake up with the sun
    1. Starting your day with sun, fresh air and a good mood can help a ton with your sleep routine at night.
    2. Take a big stretch and smile at the beautiful day ahead of you!
