Natural Hair Dye

Natural hair dye? Like I mean all the way natural, with supplies you probably already have at home!Reading Wellness Mama 5-Step Lifestyle Detox taught me so much and got me thinking about so many potential harms within my home that I hadn’t even thought of. I’ve always known traditional hair dyes, whether from a home box dye or a salon brand, they are filled with chemicals, just trust your nose on this one! While reading Katie’s book, I had just made an apt to get my hair highlighted. The first and last time I had it professionally highlighted was about a year and a half ago for my wedding. Before that I’ve always dyed it at home, but was still pretty infrequent with that because it usually lightens up quite a bit in the summer. But here in Germany, the days are getting so short and so dark! So away goes my natural highlights Anyways, back to Katie’s book, She has natural ways to permanently dye hair! Check out her book for the exact recipes and check out these other ideas for lightening hair masks . To lighten blond hair all you need is lemons and chamomile tea! You can probably finish reading this and grab these items right out of a cupboard in your house! I love having chamomile tea with lemon in it at home at night in the colder months. It’s so calming and soothing. Now I can use the let overs in my hair! The idea is chamomile tea and lemon along with the help of the sun outdoors, helps naturally bleach and stain your hair blond! What I have done so far:For 2 days, I sprayed my hair completely with the strong chamomile tea. I did this in the morning at home while getting ready for the day. I left it on while personal training clients and for a few quick walks between workouts to try and get some sun on it, then washed it out at night. Its been overcast here but even so, I have noticed after these 2 days that my hair has brightened for sure!On the third day, I added lemon juice. I juiced and strained 3 lemons. (drank the pulp in warm water the next morning while doing my morning stretches and breathing) Sprayed the lemon and tea mixture on my hair and left it on for multiple hours while I worked out, tried to get an hour of sun outside, but it was pretty overcast, and trained clients at home.I took a day of dying and washing my hair off. Then did a 4th day of lemon and chamomile tea mixture. When I washed my hair this day, I really noticed a difference. It wasn’t like dying from a box but instead my natural blond highlights in my hair popped out so much more, very much like they do on a beach vacation! And overall my hair looked a lot brighter!  So all in all, this is definitely more work and time than box dying your hair at home. And while its way cheaper than going to a salon, the highlights weren't as perfect as when you come out of the chair. If you are getting chemicals out of your life I would highly recommend at least giving this a shot. If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, I would say this should definitely be something you try if you still want some color in your hair. Especially in the summer months in St Louis when we get so much sun! I can’t wait to see what my hair does then.  Tip: If you're trying to figure out when you’d have time to do this, how about doing it during your in home workouts? Make the tea and lemon mixture before your trainer arrives and douse your hair in it. It can dry while you’re working out and have your trainer bring you outside for some circuits to get the sun’s added effect! Another perk to having an in home personal trainer, no shame in your lemon tea hair ;)
